Calvary Baptist Church Homer, Louisiana
William Colvin,
Senior Pastor

Hello.  Here’s a little bit about myself.  After graduating from La. Tech with a B.S. in Accounting, I struggled with where I was in life.  I was completely dissatisfied.  Thankfully, God intervened.  I committed anew to Him, giving myself completely.  He then did something that still surprises me.  He lead me to vocational ministry.  I was 23 years old when I took my first ministry position as a Youth Pastor in Minden, LA.  I later came to attend New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary shortly after turning 25.  What a culture shock New Orleans was after so many years of growing up in small towns throughout North Louisiana.

While in New Orleans I learned how to stand in line, run a red light with gusto, and suck the heads of crawfish.  I also learned much about me and my relationship with God.  I eventually graduated with a M.A. in Marriage/Family Counseling.  I am truly thankful for what I learned while at N.O.B.T.S.  I am also graduating from N.O.B.T.S. in December, 2014 with a Masters in Divinity!

However, the greatest thing I learned was what God had in store for me.  For in 1998 I married a wonderful woman, Shannon.  Together we came to parent four children.  Chance is our oldest, followed by Nathaniel, Mary Alice, and Caroline, our caboose.  After four children and over 15 years of marriage, I can honestly say that she is the greatest gift God has blessed me with.

In 2011, Shannon and I felt God leading us to move to Homer, Louisiana and pastor Calvary Baptist Church as well as be the HR Director at Claiborne Memorial Medical Center.  We have a wonderful church family that makes being bi-vocational worth the work.  I am so thankful that we serve an awesome God who does provide and who is greater than all our inadequacies!

Like I said, this is just a little bit about me and my family.  Let me invite you to continue exploring our website and/or contact me via e-mail at or by phone at 318-927-3989318-927-3989.  Better yet, why don’t you come and visit us during a Sunday morning worship service?  We’d love to see you there!

Patrick Canterbury,
Youth Pastor

In 1986, I was born in Shreveport, LA at a whopping 10lbs, 10oz.  The nurses didn’t even believe I could belong to my parents (they were tiny). As I grew up in Homer, LA with an older brother named Blake and parents Jeff and Mary, I began to realize that maybe this little whipper-snapper could do something useful with his life.

I grew up around ministry.  My father was a music minister… his father, a pastor.. my uncle, a pastor.  I accepted Jesus Christ at the age of 7.  My grandfather baptized me, a privilege I still hold dear today.  Although I didn’t quite understand it all at that age, God really worked on me all through my grade school years.  Since I was raised around ministry, it was the very reason I didn’t want to do it.  Sure, I went to all the youth events and was in church every time the doors were open, but it wasn’t “real” to me. I went through the motions….. I got into things I shouldn't have…. and ultimately ran away from God.  It wasn’t until the summer after graduating from Homer High School that I realized I couldn’t run from what God had chosen me to do. I was at MissionFuge in Philadelphia, PA in 2005 when God called me into ministry.  In that moment I was truly obliterated by His goodness and grace.  To think, He could use someone even like me to do His work.  People became my passion instead of Patrick Canterbury.  Jesus began to teach me how to love and study His Word.

I graduated from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications and was headed to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX to attain a Masters of Divinity degree.  Although I have not finished yet, I know that God will finish that work He started with me!  I am married to the most beautiful woman I know, Hillary.  She is my constant source of encouragement, prayer, and support of my ministry and everyday life.  God knew what He was doing when He blessed me with her!  I also have a wonderful son named Noah, who lights up my life with his huge smile and contagious laugh.

I served as youth pastor at Southside Baptist Church in Decatur, AL.  I moved back to Homer, LA to work as a Pharmacy Technician at Brookshire’s Pharmacy.  I have also served at First Baptist Norphlet, AR as a Youth Intern for 3 years, led worship for college students at Calvary Baptist in Ruston, LA, and now serve at Calvary Baptist in Homer as Youth Pastor.  It is my ultimate passion for students not only to know Christ as Savior, but to live it out on their school campuses and beyond.  I enjoy things such as spending time with my wife and son, playing video games (yes, I still do that), working out, playing Ultimate Frisbee, and watching college football.
